F.A.Q

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH)?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy focuses on solutions for your future, rather than delving through your past.

If you are willing to make changes to the way you think, then this type of therapy can be extremely effective in relieving the symptoms of anxiety and stress as well as other conditions normally helped by hypnotherapy. The sessions will focus on where you are in this very moment, identify where you would rather be and guide you along your successful journey as you change and get to your destination of happiness and peace of mind.

What techniques do you use?

One of the most wonderful tools we use at J Lowson Hypnotherapy is "Trance" and trance is natural and we use it every day for example when we are driving to work, reading a book or simply watching the TV. Trance is a way focusing the mind and allowing access to your subconscious. We also use psychotherapy and solution focused therapy techniques to maximise the benefit of every session.

What is the Inital Consultation process?

The initial consultation will be our first meeting together. During this consultation I will complete a very simple fact finding mission, ask a few medical questions and gain a collection of information relevant to you, your problems, your sleep patterns and more importantly how I can help you and what you want to achieve from the process.

I will then explain how the brain works in very simple, understandable terms and show you how relevant this is to you and your situation. I will then explain a little bit about the process we are going to undertake and a rough estimate of the amount of sessions required to achieve our goal (however this is never an exact science).

What is the AfSFH?

The Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) was originally founded in 2010 by David Newton, considered by many to be the father of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. By the time it was fully launched in 2011, the AfSFH had welcomed many Solution Focused Hypnotherapists on board, who wanted to join and be represented by a professional body solely dedicated to the discipline of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. Since then, the organisation has grown from strength to strength, and represent a growing number of therapists both nationally and internationally. The AfSFH hold the only professional register dedicated to Solution Focused Hypnotherapists who are appropriately qualified & insured and abide by our Code of Conduct, Performance & Ethics, and are required to meet ongoing standards in their continuous professional development.

What is the CNHC?

The CNHC (Complimentary & Natural Healthcare Council) was set up by the government to protect the public. We do this by providing an independent UK register of complementary healthcare practitioners and protection of the public is their sole purpose.

The CNHC set the standards that practitioners need to meet to get onto and then stay on the register. All CNHC registrants have agreed to be bound by the highest standards of conduct and all of them are professionally trained and fully insured to practise.

The CNHC govern a wide range of organisations for the use of complementary healthcare to enhance the UK’s health and well-being, raising awareness of complementary healthcare and wherever possible increase access to the 16 complimentary & natural healthcare disciplines they register, of which Clinical hypnotherapy is recognised.

The CNHC's register is approved as an Accredited Register by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA). The government recommends that people should use only an accredited register when consulting a health practitioner who is not regulated by law.

General Medical Council guidance confirms that doctors are able to refer patients to practitioners on accredited registers such as the CNHC and this could help ease the strain on the NHS.

Anyone can claim to be a complementary health practitioner so by choosing a CNHC practitioner you can make that choice with confidence.

CNHC registration is accepted by some health cash plans and insurers for reimbursement of treatment costs. Please click here for a comprehensive list of participants.

Are you fully insured?

To ensure that we comply with the NCH, AfSFH and CNHC guidelines, we hold full insurance. Details of which can be provided on request.
